Marvelous May Engineering Activities

Hi there Students & Families.

You are wonderful. Thank you so much for incorporating engineering activities into your day. Many of you are doing engineering lessons from the CAES Encore Choice Board and/or from the Simply STEM Newsletters. Thank you! Down below, are some pictures I've received from students. It makes my teacher heart burst with happiness and pride. :)

Why Engineering Matters

Employment of engineers is projected to grow 4% by 2024, adding about 65,000 new jobs. It creates excitement for learning, engages students in critical thinking, problem solving, and making connections to the real world. Engineering teaches students to use the design thinking process, tenacity, and so much more. Plus, it's fun! You might just have the next Steve Jobs, Thomas Edison, or Dr. Patricia Bath living with you.

Grab some Lego blocks or any kind of building blocks and go crazy with creativity and engineer something from the LEGO Challenge below each day.

This is an interesting engineering article to read together: 15 Medical Inventions And Discoveries of the 1800's That Have Come to Define Modern Medicine.

Looking for some family friendly movies to watch. Try these STEM movies. :)

In case you missed it, there is still time to do these amazing garden activities. The weather in May is perfect for family gardening. There is even a video of me teaching how to create a hydroponic garden from a water bottle using simple household items.

Last month was Earth Day on April 22nd. Here are some short video lessons about our Earth.

The pictures above are engineering projects students did at home. Keep up the super job of staying curious, solving real problems, and creating!

Please remember that you can see videos of me on my YouTube channel. The link is on my Clever page. :) I'll add more videos to the channel with lessons corresponding to the Encore choice board. Here is a short video I made just for you.

I miss you and care about you.

Stay curious and remember, engineering is everywhere you look.

Have a wonderful day!

Mrs. Hall
